This guide covers the two main types of timber flooring: traditional floorboards—typically 19mm or thicker solid timber installed directly over floor joists—and overlay floorboards, which are thinner boards (14mm or less) designed to be installed over a solid subfloor such as plywood or particleboard.

Traditional Floorboards

Refers to 19mm (or thicker) solid timber flooring that was traditionally installed directly over floor joists.

A specialised 60mm x 20.5mm product designed specifically for sports flooring.

Refers to thinner boards (14mm or less) designed to be installed over a solid subfloor such as plywood or particleboard.
